Make GIFs Using Facebook App’s Camera

Facebook has finally gotten with the times and realized that GIFs are one of our main ways of communicating online these days. With that, the camera in the social network’s main app is gradually being updated with a new option to create GIFs.

The feature is gradually being rolled out, as is often the case, so it’s not available for all users just yet. If you do have access to it, you’ll find it to the right after opening the standard camera feature.

As you’d expect, the GIFs recorded are only a few seconds in length, but all the filters, effects, and frames from the standard camera tool can be applied. Once you make a GIF, it can be posted your Facebook page or added to a story. The trade-off, however, is that the imagery created is meant to be shared only on Facebook; the GIFs can be saved to storage, but only as a video, making them harder to post on other services.

Facebook hasn’t said when it plans to make the feature available for everyone, but it seems it’s only being rolled out to iOS users for now.
